Think for a moment you have water leaking into your basement during heavy rain, Are You Covered? In most cases, the answer is no. For insurance companies, water coming into your home, say from an egress window, is considered a flood. Now I hear you saying, but I have water-sewer backup coverage. Water back up only covers water damage resulting from a backed-up drain or sump pump. I recommend my clients to have a good wet dry vacuum in the case of water coming into their basement. The reason being most of the time, they can clean up themselves without having to bring in water restoration professionals.

This is the first part of the Am I Covered Series. I am looking forward to the weeks to come of passing my knowledge along to you.

Hi Lynne! Dealing with a foundation can be a bit tricky. The two main claim events that your insurance would cover your foundation are Tornadoes and Earthquakes. However, insurance does not cover wear and tear, such as the foundation shifting over time. I hope this answers your question!
